It’s hard to find a quality dairy-free caramel sauce, so we decided to create our own! It’s great over almost anything where syrup is appropriate. It is fairly easy to make and keeps very well.
Gluten-Free Dairy-Free Caramel Sauce
It's hard to find a quality dairy-free caramel sauce, so we decided to make our own! It's great over almost anything where syrup is appropriate. It is fairly easy to make and keeps very well.
Ingredients
- 2 cups rice milk or your favorite dairy-free milk alternative
- 1/2 cups Mehl's Gluten-Free All-Purpose Flour
- 1 lb Smart Balance Dairy-Free Margarine
- 2 lbs light brown sugar
- 2 tsp caramel extract
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions

Add the rice milk and flour to a large sauce pan. Whisk really well until the flour is fully mixed in with no lumps.

Add the remaining ingredients and whisk until everything is relatively free of lumps.

Heat on medium heat, stirring constantly until it comes to a roiling boil. Keep stirring until it boils for about two minutes.

Let cool and store in the fridge in an air tight container.
